Doing something new is exciting and exhausting at the same time.
Tiching hi skull is no different. Some respect you.. some neglect you. Gw sih belum ngomel2.. reserve it for the next year. It is the end of academic year now, let them end it peacefully.
Anyhow, yesterday, I got a bit irratated with my college students. (fyi, I still hold my part time classes at a uni)
The students were acting like hi skulers and worse.
Since this is in college, my charted territory, my turf, I unleashed my superpower. It started with me peacefully explaining about assignment. Then, I continued with my usual lecture. The students start their own little discussion. They were done in low and murmuring voices. So, not so much of distraction.
After about an hour, one couple started holding hands as if my class is a cinema. Others were chatting louder, maybe one or two were laughing coz they were listening to my examples, but more were into gossiping and planning where to go after. It got worse. People started to tease and chat more louder.
So I stood in front, silently. Waiting…
After several minutes of that, students realized.. me sipping drinks, watching them…
Then, some politely shut themselves up. However, some still continued as if the world is theirs. So I waited…
The friends who had already realized I was silent for minutes tried to shush the friends.. Took a while for everyone to be silent and start looking (if not staring) at me.
Since I laid the rules, I said this – Do you remember my rules in class? I speak you listen, you speak I listen. Only on disccusion you speak, when I teach you listen. (my favourite rule)
By this time, they should have realized I was irritated. Then I continued my cynical sarcastic comments – If you dont want to be here, you are welcome to go out. Your attendences are noted anyway.
With a more stern and deeper voice, I said you are not hi skullers. I dont care about you. You could fail this class, and for all I care, you could repeat several times. My duty is to deliver the knowledge, not to babysit.
In closure, I warned them .. Next week, any of you who wants to chat and not be in my class, please come, do your attendance, and go out. For I only will lecture those who wants to listen. Today, I will finish right this moment, and I consider this topic is done. If it comes up in the test, it is your bad not mine. You may go home now, thank you.
(It supposed to last for two hours, but I was done for in 1 hour.. )
Let’s see if this situation happen again next week. I guarantee some people already failed bfore even test 1 is done.
Har har har… *evil laugh..
